Wildlife at Pench National Park
The park was declared a National Park in 1983 and came under Project Tiger in the year 1992. The Park area is 292.85 sq. km Core and 465 sq. km Buffer Zone; total area is 757.85 sq. km.
Tiger & Leopard are primary carnivores. The prey species are the Spotted Deer, Sambhar, Nilgai, Barking Deer, Langurs, Chinkara, Wild Boar and Four Horned Antilope. The Gaur is the coarse grazer and the Sloth Bear is an omnivore. The secondary consumers are the Wild Dog, Wolf, Jackal, Fox, Hyena, and the Jungle Cat etc.
Added attraction is a unique boat ride on the river Pench, the visitor is introduced to fantastic landscapes and the riverine forests that teem with water birds and wildlife. Jungle SafariJeep/Gypsy are available on rent for jungle rides on prior request. Experienced naturalists are available. Packed breakfast/snacks are arranged for the visitors taking jungle rides.

In nature lover's lingo Indira Priyadarshini Pench Tiger Reserve is God's own country. Tiger makes its home here. Some call it Kipling country for this is where "Mowgli" the wolf child was discovered by an Englishman Lt.John Moor. "The Jungle Book" by Rudyard Kipling is based on Mowgli- in these very surroundings.
The park is rich in bio-diversity. The avi-fauna is rich Orioles, Hornbills, Flycatchers, Tits, Warblers, Raptors, the list is endless. Reptiles like Monitor Lizard, Rat snake, Leaf Nosed Vine snake, Indian python, Cobra; Krait and Russell's viper live here.
The cris-cross of soft jungle roads makes excursion in the park easy and comfortable. Ride on an Elephant's back is another way you can explore the forest.
